Why babies and children benefit from chiropractic care

What pediatric chiropractic care is

Pediatric chiropractic care supports how a baby or child's nervous system, spine, and body develop through each stage. The care is gentle, specific, and designed for a body that is still growing. Nothing about it looks like an adult adjustment.

We use the amount of pressure you would use to check the ripeness of a tomato. Small hands. Light touch. Full presence.

Both of our doctors are Webster Certified through the ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association), which means we have completed advanced training in the specific approach children need. We see babies as young as one day old and children through their teenage years, at Tula in McKinney, TX.

Why babies and children benefit from chiropractic care

Birth is a big journey for a brand new body. The position they were in, the way they arrived, and the pressure on the way out all place strain on the head, neck, and spine. Even the most peaceful birth can leave subtle tension that shows up as a baby who favors one side, struggles to settle, has trouble latching, or does not sleep the way you expected.

As children grow, their nervous systems are working overtime to build every foundation. Feeding, digestion, sleep, motor milestones, immunity, and emotional regulation all run through the same system. When there is tension or restriction along the spine, that tension can show up in one or more of those patterns.

Pediatric chiropractic care does not treat conditions. It supports the nervous system that runs everything, so your child's body can do what it already knows how to do.

WHAT YOUR CHILD'S BODY IS DOING

  • Birth pattern strain

Whether birth was quick or long, vaginal or cesarean, complication-free or intervention-heavy, the body carries a memory of it. That memory often shows up as tension in the neck, head shape asymmetry, or a preference for one side of the body.

  • Nervous system regulation

A newborn's nervous system is still learning how to regulate. When it holds a protective pattern from birth or from early stress, it can affect feeding, digestion, and sleep. Craniosacral work and gentle adjustments help that pattern release.

  • Developing structure

As children grow, tumble, learn to walk, sit, run, and eventually carry backpacks, their bodies build habits of tension. Regular care through those seasons keeps the spine, hips, and shoulders moving freely as they develop.

Every pediatric visit at Tula is unrushed and full-body. We don't isolate one part. We look at the whole baby or child in front of us and work with what their body is asking for that day.

We start with observation. How your child is holding themselves, where the tension patterns show up, how their nervous system is responding. For babies, that includes watching how they turn their head, how their body responds to being held, and where they hold or release.

We use craniosacral therapy on almost every pediatric visit. It's the gentlest work we do, and it supports the nervous system in a way that helps everything else settle. For babies with feeding, sleep, or regulation patterns, this is often where the biggest shifts happen.

Then we adjust, using the light, specific touch pediatric care requires. Both of our doctors are Webster Certified through the ICPA, which means our approach is built around the physiology of a growing body, not an adaptation of adult care.

Care evolves with your child. What they need as a newborn is not what they need as a toddler, and not what they will need at age eight. We adjust the rhythm as they grow.

Frequently asked questions about pediatric chiropractic care

Is chiropractic care safe for babies? Yes. Pediatric chiropractic care uses a small fraction of the pressure used in adult care. Both of our doctors are Webster Certified through the ICPA, which is the specific training built for pediatric and prenatal work. Pediatric care is one of our core specialties.

What kinds of concerns do you support in babies? We support the nervous system that runs your baby's feeding, sleep, digestion, and regulation. Parents often bring their babies in for latch or feeding concerns, colic or reflux patterns, sleep patterns, torticollis, or head shape.

How gentle is a baby adjustment? As gentle as the pressure you would use to check the ripeness of a tomato. There is no cracking, no forceful movement, and no positioning that puts stress on a baby's body.

When can I bring my newborn in? As early as their first days of life. We see babies as young as one day old.

How many visits will my child need? It depends on what their body is working with. Some patterns shift in one to three visits. Others take longer, especially if the pattern has been building for a while. We build the rhythm with you after the first visit.

Do you see older children? Yes. We support children through toddlerhood, school-age, and adolescence.

Little bodies deserve their own kind of care

Pediatric chiropractic is not adult chiropractic scaled down. It is its own approach, built for a nervous system that is still learning, a body that is still growing, and a family that is doing the beautiful, exhausting work of raising a whole person.
