Chiropractic Care After a C-Section
You had major surgery and went home with a newborn. Your body deserves care too.
A cesarean birth is still a birth, and it's also abdominal surgery. Then comes the part nobody rehearses: lifting a car seat, feeding around an incision, sleeping in pieces. If your back, neck or hips are paying for it, we'd love to help.

What recovery often feels like
- Low back pain from guarding your belly and changed posture
- Neck, shoulder and upper back tension from feeding and holding your baby
- Hip and pelvic stiffness
- Feeling braced and tight through your whole midsection
- Soreness where an epidural or spinal block went in
- Feeling disconnected from your core
Why it happens
In pregnancy your ligaments soften and your posture changes to carry your baby. After a cesarean, your body also protects the incision: you curl forward, breathe higher in your chest and move more carefully. That's exactly what it should do. Over weeks, though, that guarding can settle in as back, rib and neck tension.
How we care for you after a cesarean
Postpartum visits are tailored to your needs. When comfortable and after an appropriate amount of time, we help with the scar tissues around your incision. You can lie on your side or sit, whatever is comfortable. We use gentle adjustments for the pelvis, spine and ribs and muscle and soft tissue work through the back, hips, neck and shoulders, and we help your nervous system shift out of survival mode.
You don't have to wait for the six-week check. We've cared for mothers in the days after birth. We'll always go at your pace and follow your OB's guidance for your incision.
All of our doctors have extensive training in pregnancy, postpartum and pediatric care through the ICPA.
Bring your baby
Babies are always welcome. They can be held, fed and cuddled during your visit. With a Mommy & Me visit, we can care for both of you in the same appointment, which helps since many babies born by cesarean benefit from gentle care too.
When to call your doctor
Call your OB right away for fever, redness, swelling or discharge at the incision, heavy bleeding, leg swelling or pain, chest pain or shortness of breath. Those need medical care first.
A team for your recovery
Many mothers also benefit from a pelvic floor physical therapist after a cesarean, especially for core and scar recovery, and we're glad to work alongside yours.
